A quiet slow-paced style of yoga which calms the mind and stretches the body. Most Yin Yoga postures are seated or lying poses targeting the hips, legs and back. The postures are held for up to 5 minutes, which enables you to stretch deeper into the body, beyond the surface muscles to target and stress the connective tissues of the fascia, tendons and ligaments.
Holding poses for an extended period of time intensifies and deepens the stretch. Bolsters, blocks and blankets are used to support you in the pose, so you don’t over stretch.
All poses can be adapted to suit all levels of flexibility and everyone is encouraged to work within their own limit, making it a style of yoga suitable for all abilities including beginners. Mentally, it gives you time to slow down, clear your mind, sit with your emotions and move into a deep relaxing meditation.
You will leave a Yin Yoga class feeling light and spacious in the body as well as having a sense of calm and peace in the mind. Other benefits of Yin Yoga include greater flexibility, better lubrication for the joints and improved posture.
Restorative yoga is a delicious way to relax and soothe frayed nerves. The practice is all about slowing down and opening your body through passive stretching. During long holds of postures in restorative yoga your muscles are allowed to relax deeply. It us a unique feeling because props, rather than muscles are used to support your body. The use of bolsters, blankets, and blocks prop students into passive poses so the body can experience the benefits of a pose without having to exert any effort. A good restorative class is more rejuvenating than taking a nap. It is a therapeutic form of yoga.
Benefits of Restorative Yoga include:
- Enhances flexibility
- Deeply relaxes the body
- Stills the mind
- Improves capacity for healing and balancing
- Balances the nervous system
- Boots the immune system
- Develops qualities of compassion and understanding towards others and self
- Enhances mood
Aerial Yoga is a wonderfully playful way to explore yoga and fitness. It will improve body strength and flexibility fast and allow you to go deeper into stretches that you may have not been able to in mat based yoga. With the assistance of a (low-slung) hammock you will experience the joy of being weightless, taking pressure off your spine, neck and joints, and allowing you to use gravity to achieve new stretches. Aerial Yoga is particularly freeing and healing for your spine and limbs and a highly effective way to work your core, strengthen arms and tone legs.
- Improves blood circulation
- Improves lung function
- Improves lymphatic system function
- Improves digestive system
- Improves mood
- Relieves insomnia
Hatha yoga is a generic term that refers to any type of yoga that teaches physical postures. In my Hatha classes you will get an introduction to a variety of yoga postures. You probably won’t work up a major sweat in my hatha yoga class, but you should end up leaving class feeling longer, looser, and more relaxed.
Hatha Flow (Vinyasa)
Hatha Flow (also called Vinyasa) (pronounced “vin-yah-sah”) is a Sanskrit word for a phrase that roughly translates as “to place in a special way,” referring—in hatha yoga—to a sequence of poses. My Hatha flow / Vinyasa classes are known for their fluid, movement-intensive practices. My sequences for my classes create smooth transitions from pose to pose, with the intention of linking breath to movement, and I often play music to keep things lively. If you hate routine and love to test your physical limits, hatha flow / vinyasa may be just your ticket.

Ayurveda is considered by many scholars to be the oldest healing science. In Sanskrit, Ayurveda means “The Science of Life.” Ayurvedic knowledge originated in India more than 5,000 years ago and is often called the “Mother of All Healing.”
The Strategy – Your Constitution and Its Inner Balance
Ayurveda places great emphasis on prevention and encourages the maintenance of health through close attention to balance in one’s life, right thinking, diet, lifestyle and the use of herbs. Knowledge of Ayurveda enables one to understand how to create this balance of body, mind and consciousness according to one’s own individual constitution and how to make lifestyle changes to bring about and maintain this balance.
Just as everyone has a unique fingerprint, each person has a particular pattern of energy—an individual combination of physical, mental and emotional characteristics—which comprises their own constitution. This constitution is determined at conception by a number of factors and remains the same throughout one’s life.
Allow me to work with you on your unique body combination and work out a healthy living plan that includes recommended diet and drinks and what yoga poses to incorporate for your unique body type.
